Corot

Welcome to Corot, a 100 year old farmhouse,
where you can slip back in time and experience old Japan!

About

Corot has 4 spacious tatami rooms. These rooms are not furnished with beds but instead have Japanese futons for guests (up to 20). In addition to having an Irori room and a living room we also have a Goemonburo (a traditional bath) with gas-heated shower. The kitchen cum dining room is furnished with a refrigerator-freezer, gas-oven, microwave-oven, rice-cooker and tableware for about 20 guests.

Our rooms are not air-conditioned as the breeze billowing softly through big trees, cools our premises in summer. In the colder months, the traditional irori, kotatsu (Japanese heated tables) and oil heaters are used to keep things warm.

As meals are not served, guests are asked to bring their own meals. To complete this old Japanese farming experience, there is a field of vegetables at Corot where guests can pick their own vegetables and eat.

We cater to reserved parties only and the toilet facilities are shared with other guests visiting the field in the daytime.

Our staff is there to help you and support you with the facilities till 6 pm every day.

Facilities at Corot

Goemonburo

Goemonburo

A cauldron shaped bath heated directly from beneath. It has a floating wooden lid on which the bather sits causing to the lid to sink to the bottom of the bath. This prevents the bather to come in direct contact with the heating source.
(This traditional bath is named after the robber Goemon Ishikawa, who was boiled to death in a cauldron during the Japanese warring era. Rest assured, we won’t let this happen to you!)

Irori

Irori

A cooking hearth built into the floor. Ash is spread inside the pit, and firewood is used for fuel. Along with helping to heat a home, people can boil water or grill fish here.

Kotatsu

Kotatsu

A leg warmer consisting of an infrared heater positioned under a quilt-covered table.

Tatami

Tatami
